Break the Chains

by | Jun 3, 2020 | Comic, George Floyd, Obstacles We Face

The Story:

George Floyd was killed by police in Minneapolis on May 25, 2020. That was the final straw.
We, as Americans, can no longer deny that our family, friends and neighbors in the African American community are being… what’s the word? Is there a word? Discriminated against? Systematically oppressed? Killed? To be honest with you, I don’t think there is a word that can carry the weight of the situation. Especially when we come face to face with the reality of what is happening.
This image is of a facebook post that depicts the author's nine year old son grappling with the weight of the George Floyd incident. He asks his father if he is allowed to play outside since the cops might come and shoot him.
So, what do we do about this?

My Two Cents:

To be even more honest with you, I have no idea what we should do. We can protest, but corona is always lurking. We can donate, but money is tight. We can send positive thoughts and messages, but will that end police brutality?
There is no blueprint to create change, but we need to have our voices heard while minimizing the spread of COVID-19. Calling our representatives could be a solution. We live in a democracy, right? Let’s keep the pressure on the ones that represent us.
The most efficient way I’ve found was through an organization called 5calls. It is the simplest way to get in touch with your representatives and make your voice heard.
Make a call and fight to break the chains.
